Molokai, Oct 2006:
Needed a break, took a day trip to the island of Molokai. Sarah J. came with.

Interesting facts about Molokai: Major roads, 1; Stoplights, 0; Population, ~8000.
Molokai is deserted. I saw more cars leaving the airport in Honolulu than I saw on the
entire island during our ~9 hour drive. Exactly what I was looking for.

Upon making this page, I noticed a trend. Most of the pictures I post (i.e. the ones I like)
are from the windward sides of the islands I visit. Now, the windward sides have the rain,
and so the waterfalls, the lush foliage, etc., and also far fewer tourists (who wants to go to
Hawaii and be rained on?). Coincidence? I say this partly tongue-in-cheek (what a stupid
phrase) as my parents have made this very comment to me, but only partly.

We did drive the entire island, pretty much, but all the below pictures are from the Halawa-side.

Small island off the rocky South-Eastern coast of Molokai

A tiny beach, hidden from view unless you stubble through the weeds looking for it

A palm tree by the shorebreak

Closer to the small island (shame about the power lines)

Ridges on the Halawa side of Molokai, right where the road ends

A pair of waterfalls. Getting up to them will be the main goal of my next trip

Did I mention how empty Molokai is? It's amazing and beautiful.
