Chile 2011:
I went down to Chile in June 2011 for an observing run and found
when I took my camera out that it still had photos on it from my
February 2011 observing run to the same telescope...oops

So now I'll present a lovely Summer/Winter constrast of the Cerro
Tololo area, which is especially nice as they got a rare heavy snow
a couple days before I arrived.

Summer (Feb 2011)

The telescopes on Cerro Tololo

I was using the big one with the silver dome, the 4 meter Blanco telescope

The view from the dining room

The late, slow sunset of summer evening

One of the semi-tame foxes that lives next to the dorms.

The chefs feed them I'm told, so they tolerate posing for photos.

Winter (Jun 2011)

Same telescopes (same vantage point), now in winter-mode.

I was using the same one again.

The Andes, dusted with snow.

Nearly the same view, 1 day later (at sunset).

The snow was melting really fast while I was there.

My last morning up on the summit, a lenticular cloud
crested the mountains just before sunrise.

Two foxes now, sleeping on rocks in front of the telescopes.
